Lightning Accident Strikes Home

January 21, 2002 (Tochigi)

Due to the impact of the lightning strike, the antenna flew off the roof.

On January 21, 2002, lightning directly struck a TV antenna of a residential home in Tochigi. 

The Tokyo Electric Power Company meter machine and the outside wall were damaged by fire.

The TV antenna was located on the top the lower section of the roof  (circled area) of this house.

Fire erupted from the light distribution panel, but a family member managed to put out the fire in time before greater damage occurred.

A light switch was destroyed by fire and the glass and sash of the window were broken. 

This lighting fixture/socket was also damaged by fire.

All weak electrical current items were destroyed by fire.

Although there was absolutely no electrical connection to the house, the gatepost lamp and concrete of the wall surrounding the house were also destroyed.
