Juraisin Lightning Protection Systems

For Safety and Peace of Mind

テキスト ボックス: Mini Juraisin Air Terminal System for Roofs

The installment of our roof system heightens the probability of attracting the lightning and providing a safe path for its grounding

Roof Air Terminal System

In generally constructed roof systems in Japan, copper wire, copper bands and such are placed around the top of the roofs.  Our company believes that such designs and operations are lacking in safety.

This same point of view was described in the article, “Technological Measures for Preventing Lightning Damage of Communications and Computers” that appeared in the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun (Daily Industrial Newspaper) in August 1997.  In this article, a professor stated, “Horizontal conductor systems have been adopted for a wide range of lightning protection; however, in terms of safety, they cannot be said to be perfectly safe.”

Our corporation concurs with this point of view.  Even when visiting architectural design offices, we have often heard, “Even if lead wiring is placed on top of roofs, it is useless because the lightning will just strike in another location.”

Why is this type of operation lacking in safety?  Our company believes that air is an insulator that does not conduct normal electricity.  However, when considering the dielectric breakdown of vapor, it is said that dielectric breakdown occurs at about 30,000 volts for plates (the same is true of circular plates) and 10,000 volts for cylinder shapes.

In the cases of roofs, roofing materials are very angular (such as angular sections of parapets and such) and consist of projecting objects.  These sections of the roof begin dielectric breakdown faster than copper bands and copper wiring.  A path for safely conducting the electricity is lost and we often hear of lightning striking the corners of roofing.

Due to this reason, all of our designs and operations include the installation of Mini Juraisin air terminals in order to heighten the probability of attracting the lightning and providing a safe path for its grounding.

Higher Rates of Protection with Mini Juraisin Air Terminal Systems

During Professor Okumura’s Juraisin Lightning Protection System and Lightning Protective Effectiveness Test, Part 4, Final Section, when objects that easily attract lightning were within the striking distance of identical distance, the Juraisin Air Terminal and Protection System showed high rates of protection.

In addition, the Juraisin air terminal’s stability in receiving the lightning strike at the tip was highly appraised.  We have conducted appraisals and have verified that in existing Mini Juraisin Air Terminal Systems for roofs, the Mini Juraisin air terminals have indeed received lightning.  The highly evaluated Mini Juraisin Air Terminal System becomes especially necessary in cases of buildings with large roof areas.
